Background
Indeed is one of the top job sites with over 350 million unique users worldwide. Here we look at how a data collection framework helped align content and UI patterns for a cohesive experiences across job seeker facing surfaces.
The challenge
The application flow had gone through significant changes due to a number of company-wide initiatives. As a result, trends had started appearing indicating poor user experience or possible bugs.
Opportunity
As the application flow continues to evolve and grow, we needed to ensure the experience remains cohesive too; like they come from the same system. This make it a good time to revisit the usability, accessiblity and experience of the application flow.
How we did it
Being data-driven, I looked at all the data, both quantitative and qualitative.
Heuristic analysis
I built out a heuristic framework by conducting a roll-up of existing research and guidelines from across Indeed. This helped to help evaluate the application flow and diagnose usability issues. We developed them by conducting a roll-up of existing research and guidelines from across Indeed.
User stories
I created user stories from the perspective of job seekers, employers, and Indeed, validating them with UX and product partners across Apply. This helped identify areas where our experiences might not be helping users achieve their goals.
Quantitative insights
I identified metrics to inform the audit, and patterns within those metrics to gain insights into user behavior.
Research roll-up
I synthesised research from across Indeed. This gave insight into the motivations, needs, and pain points of both job seekers and employers.
Results
The experience audit identified 9 key reccomendations – 3 short term and 6 long term. Each recommendation analysed user problems, highlighted trends and proposed a solution.
After presenting to key stakeholders, I worked with them to prioritise and map into the teams roadmap.
